Mount Vesuvius, there volcano that overlooks the Bay of Bengal in Italy, is most known for the famous fires of Pompeii. In this incident, the volcano erupted, with fire and ash raining down upon the cities of Pompeii and Stabiae . Over the course of it's lifetime, it has erupted over 30 times that scientist are aware of. Part of the Campainian volcanic Arc, Mount Vesuvius lies East of Naples about nine kilometers off the coast. Today, Mount Vesuvius is considered one of the world top ten most dangerous volcanoes, due to it's proximity to 3,000,000 people living nearby, and explosive tenancies.
